Balanced Squad at last?

If...and a big if we get Arno, Hart and Chicarito in then we would have decent backup in most positions for once.
Decent full backs, centre halves, solid midfielders (attacking and defensive) just need fit Carroll/Sakho to help up top.
Cant remember last time we had cover in most positions.

i'd like a midfielder that can get around the pitch and weigh in with a few goals.
Also a forward that will put himself about a bit.

I did say we have cover in "most" positions. Lanzini is the glaring exception but I still think we have enough in squad to be able to adapt to different formations if..hopefully not Lanzini is injured.

Kouyate is not a natural holding midfielder in the shape of Obiang - I'd have him down more as a box to box player and think he is at his best when he is getting past the front man - he stretches the opposition when you have a more mobile centre forward out there like Sakho

Yes, HOTY ahead of Payet.
That was the season Payet was crippled by McCarthy and missed a lot of games.
Cheikou played just about every game and was brilliant for us. I remember one of the pundits on Sky saying in a match late on that Kouyate had been our best player that season.
You are welcome to disagree - this is a football forum -
but I think you'll find he was in almost everybody's top three that season so to react with such a display of outrage just shows you have straw for brains.

Based on my opinion.
I rate him highly. He was my HOTY the season before last.
Was less impressive last season but then so was just about everybody. The new signings weakened the team and confidence was shot to pieces. That infected a lot of our team - but we've seen how good Cheikou is and let's not forget that.

We'll most likely play with two holding players and we have three first choice players for those two spots. All three are quite different. Noble and kouyate were superb together season before last where obiang struggled but to be fair he was probably the most consistent last season. All three will probably get injuries like kouyate has already and suspensions or loss of form. All three are plenty good enough to push for that top 7/8 but I also wouldn't say any are a definite starter.

All of the formations on this thread look good.
If Chicharito signs - the Telegraph today says it's almost a done deal - we have a mouthwatering first XI.
Bilic has a massive call to make on Noble. Very hard to see how he makes the cut, with Antonio, Arno and Lanzini surely automatic picks. The holding player would have to be Kouyate.
Noble is neither a proper holding player in the mould of Scotty Parker nor is he good enough as an attacking midfielder - because he has no pace and doesn't score enough goals in open play. He obviously can't play wide. After all these years I still struggle to define what his best role is.
The right thing for the team is to drop him and pick the team on merit. Otherwise we are back to that dismal last season under Allardyce where Nolan was picked every week despite never once justifying his place.

As already mentioned by others, the only creativity in the squad is supplied by Lanzini , we desperately need at least another of his ilk.

If we sign Hernandez and arnautovic I think we have a really well. Alancrdsquad
Three good keepers with hart and Adrian probably sell one hopefully Randolph
Four good fullback cresswell arthur Bryan and zabaletta
Four good centre halves Reid ogbonna first choice and Collins Fonte with two very good youngsters in the back ground in Burke and oxford
Three good central midfielders in Noble kouyate and obiang with Cullen pushing through
Out wide Arnie and Antonio with Fegs and snodgrass as back up is one area where I think you could get rid of the the latter and replace them with something stronger to give competition
Lanzini in the hole
And we have 4 strikers in Hernandez Ayew Carroll and sakho with Martinez and fletcher coming through
I'd like us to lodge snodgrass and maybe fegouli and if we could get Carroll and sakho off the books and either replace those four or if the youngsters can step up I'd be quite happpy with the squad
